      谢拉等学者提出和发展的社会认识论是一种旨在从知识交流角度解析“社会智力”的形成机制,从而为图书馆情报学的社会基础做出解释的理论。本研究基于社会认识论,遵循实践导向原则,以用户和记录资源为两个向度,初步划分出图书馆情报学理论视域下的四个具体实践领域,进而通过各层次用户和记录资源之间互动关系的分析,将社会认识归纳为由低到高的四个层次,最终将图书馆体系的本质界定为一种通过结构性文化资本与个体性文化资本互动交汇而保障社会认识高级化的制度安排,并把图书馆情报学界定为以用户和资源作为二维向度,以记录管理和社会认识作为理论支点,以满足不同层次社会认识需求为主要研究内容的学科。图2。参考文献33。
英文摘要:
Social Epistemology, initially developed by Jesse Hauk Shera and some other scholars, aims at providing a theoretical foundation for Library and Information Science (LIS). However, due to deficiencies in the follow up research, the relationship between professional activities of librarianship and the optimization of the different levels of social intelligence remain vague. For this reason, the present study aims at constructing a theoretical framework to shed light on the social foundations of LIS based on two basic dimensions for librarianship, patrons and recourses, with the combination of the diverse types and characteristics of professional practice of librarianship. 
The background of this research is the confusion and perplexity that LIS community has experienced in recent years due to an incomplete understanding of the essence of library services leading to the theoretical development of LIS lagging behind the evolution of librarianship practice. In order to bridge this gap, this study constructs a theoretical framework which focuses on the hierarchical structure of social epistemology to clarify the above mentioned confusion.
The paper concludes that patrons and resources could be regarded as two axes to divide the theoretical vision of LIS into four areas. Firstly, those patrons who do not have identified information needs are willing to use the public resources in the library to satisfy the first level of social intelligence development needs. Secondly, patrons, who have specific information problems and are willing to access the information resources initially developed for public users but including professional content, meet the second level of social intelligence development needs. Thirdly, patrons who focus on specific professional issues but without clear statement on their information need tend to make use of the library retrieval system to meet the third level of social intelligence development need. Fourthly, patrons who have identified information problems are willing to seek academic information supporting service from librarians to satisfy the fourth level of social intelligence development needs. Based on the above mentioned process, this article constructed a framework to show how the patrons at different levels interact with different types of resources collected by librarians to fulfill the purpose of social intelligence optimization. 
The limitations of this research are that some terminology and ideas come from sociology and philosophy which support the theoretical framework of LIS well but are unable to be tested by a traditional empirical study, thus, further research is needed to confirm the validity of the Hierarchies of Social Epistemology Theory.
This research is expected to contribute to the construction of the foundation of LIS theory and improve professional awareness amongst librarians. 2 figs. 33 refs.
